Discovery party

Intro: telling the tale.

I'm Andrew Hiester and this is my site.

The austral summer of 2005-2006 (October through February) finds me at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Most everything here relates to that grand adventure…

And those guys pictured? Scott, Shackleton and Wilson before their departure on the southern journey, November 1902.

Day to day details.

For a running commentary, check my b(log). There you'll find my latest entry first, and also links and archived entries in the righthand column of the page.

And stunning pictures.

Well, what stuns me is the landscape. It's amazing how picturesque things are here, because it looks so totally foreign.

And the light is pretty incredible too. I've done my best to capture some of what I'm seeing in digital photos—gallery.
